Bottom up vs. top down attention and ways of focusing.

Rough-- make that VERY rough notes

These notes are not intended to be read as an article but to give you an idea of what the audio interview covered, so you'll listen to it. Please don't complain about grammar, spelling, etc.

Four kinds of attention

Narrow focus

diffuse awareness

Objective attention subject object relationship

Immersed attention-- become the object

Fonteyne-- ballet dancing"

This is not something that is necessarily easy to do and some people don't do it at all.

What percentage of the population use these kinds of attention?

very few use diffuse awareness or immersed attention.

What are the advantages of this? Why would someone want to do this? How is this of benefit to them?

Narrow focus is associated with fight or flight-- like fear.

Is this a modern human phenomenon-- would it be the same for indigenous tribal people in Papua New Guinea or the Amazon?

It seems that our culture, our technologies have moved us towards m ore narrowed focus.

Narrow focus can be very valuable in some ways.

When is it useful to narrow focus?

Quote Page 6

Is love bottom up?

Space and bottom up?

Surrender union, becoming one with"

What about the brain waves-- Where do they fit in with connection and love?

alpha activity-- synchronous alpha waves

How do people feel when they synchronize brainwaves with each other?

Writing leads to narrow focus?

what about reading?

Some have said that writing led to more left brain, more male dominated" Is that consistent with your way of thinking?

Is open focus more feminine, narrow more masculine?

So you are saying that Open Focus enhances sexual experience?

Quote P 25  objectifying things or people in emergency mode reduces empathy and distances us from experience, creating feelings of separation. That's

You're saying that using open focus can help people feel more deeply, more connected, and that life is more meaningful?

What's it take to learn Open Focus What's the process of learning it?

The book, Open Focus Brain comes with a CD, right.

Occupy Wall street is like Biofeedback-- not trying to control"

Surrender? Tell us about that.

Surrender and letting go-- that's part of some religions?

But also, fundamentalists have characterized surrender-- letting go, as of the devil and evil.

How does that make you more faithful?

Talk about union.

If you could give a brief description of Open Focus and what it is, what would you say?
