The Mainstream Media Failed to Report the Biggest Political News Development of the year, that Democrats Beat Bush at Campaign Fundraising; After first writing this article a few days ago, I talked to more campaigns, to the DNC, checked Google News... not one mainstream media outlet reported this massively positive news for the Democrats that is bad news for Bush, even though the DNC was already pushing the same basic idea (though my headline was clearer, more direct and forceful <G>.)
This July 4, Independence Day, there is hope in the USA. The forces of good will take back America. But it will take all of us to get the word out. Websites like opednews.com and Buzzflash and commondreams.org and smirkingchimp.com and counterpunch.org and alternet.org and tompaine.com, Progressive Radio talk shows like Thom Hartmanns. Mike Malloy's Pacifica..... they are where the real news is surfacing. Your email groups that you send out, that your friends send you. That's where the truth is shining.
The mainstream media may not be totally dead, but they have lost their heart, their courage, for the most part. On my favorites list, I have a file for print newspapers that have not sold out. I don't have 10 US papers on that list. If you know of any, please send them to me, because we need to honor them, give them our attention, support and nurturance. They are a highly threatened, almost extinct species. Their editors and writers need to be acknowledged for their courage in the face of adversity, in the face of a fascist administration that has done everything it could to intimidate, cow and control the media.
So, on this holiday weekend, as you enjoy happy moments with your family, as you celebrate the establishment of the first modern democracy's founding and declaration of independence, make sure that you do something to insure its continuance. Get the truth out, keep the hope going, spreading. Tell a neighbor that there is a more positive future. Send an email to 20 people you don't usually write to. Take a risk an put up a sign that stands for what you believe, but are, it's sad to say, afraid to declare in this time of right wing intolerance. You are the patriot. You are the American who is defending freedom. When you think you might be at risk because you want to or even think about expressing your thoughts, take the anger and frustration and rather than bottling it up, defer it for an hour or two, then do something constructive with it. use that energy. We have less than 17 months to take back the White House. Do everything you can every day. Think of new ways you can sacrifice and take risks, new ways you can make a difference. Plan to give money to this cause-- either to candidates or think tanks or PAC-- every month. Remember, you've already been drafted. We are in a fight that must be won. We will succeed. We will take back America and you are one of the patriots who will make it happen.
