| Below, you'll find a press release from judicialwatch.org that describes
how vice president Cheney's secretive energy Task Force's documents
feature a map of Iraqi oil fields. This is intersting and could show proof
that before 911 Cheney was plotting with his oil company cronies to take
Iraq's oil fields. But even more interesting is that Judicial Watch is the
organization making this disclosure.
Judicial Watch is the right wing organization that supported
many assaults on the Clinton presidency.
IN a 1999 press release, they bragged of their actions:
"In the last five years, Judicial Watch's lawsuits have
contributed to the demise of the Clintons' first legal defense fund
(which was illegal, as it bestowed gratuities), the exposing of the
campaign finance and Chinagate scandals -- including the role of John
Huang at the Commerce Department -- the cutting off of improper
insurance payments by State Farm to fund the Clintons' defense of a
myriad of legal matters, and revelations that The White House is behind
the misuse of the Internal Revenue Service against critics and legal
opponents. Judicial Watch also uncovered the violiation of the Privacy
Act by Clinton political appointees and The White House to tamper with
Linda Tripp and Kathleen Willey, material witnesses in the Filegate and
Lewinsky scandals, and the legal circumstances concerning efforts to
silence pathologists who found a 45-caliber size hole in the skull of
Ron Brown at the time of his tragic death. Judicial Watch also quashed
the first illegal house loan for Bill and Hillary Clinton to purchase a
mansion in New York State. Finally, Judicial Watch, in its cases,
uncovered that Hillary Clinton is the primary mastermind of the sale of
taxpayer-financed government services for political contributions, in
addition to her central role in Filegate. "These are just a few of
our accomplishments as we near the new millennium," stated Judicial
Watch President Tom Fitton.
This organization is an incredible right wing powerhouse with funding
of over $25 million a year. That puts it in the same league as the
Heritage foundation.
The question is: Why would a far right wing organization with a very
successful track record of going after Democrats suddenly go after Cheney.
There are two possible answers. Neither are good for Cheney. They both
suggest that Vice president Cheney will soon have a cardiac event that
will cause him to have to leave office. This is a nice, clean way of
avoiding the nasty mess of a watergate or Spiro Agnew-like corruption
inquiry.
One reason Judicial Watch may be skewering Cheney is that it's a way to
stanch the accusations. The word on the political street is that
"there's blood in the waters" and it's got both Democrats and
Republicans alike excited and nervous. Someone's going to get bit by
sharks soon. Cheney may be the chosen fall guy. Besides, he's surely
performed enough for Bechtel, Brown and Root and Halliburton so he can
retire with a kingly income.
Cheney also has a better excuse than the dog eating his Iraq
conquest for oil plans, which is about the opinion most insiders seem
to have of Bush's having Tenet take the blame.
Another possible reason that one colleague suggested, is that maybe
this organization, Judicial Watch is as shocked about the behavior of the
neocons as are the Democrats and the rest of the world. Maybe they are
offended by the aspirations toward empire that Cheney and his PNAC neocon
cabal buddies have foisted upon the US and the world with such hubris.
This would be a good thing for America but not necessarily a good thing
for the Democrats or the left. it would be great to see real patriotic
American conservatives who really believe in conservative principles
taking on the extreme right wing, radical Bush Presidency.
If Cheney does take the Cardiac exit route, that will put Bush in the
position of choosing a new vice president.
The 25th Amendment provides that when the vice presidency becomes
vacant the president shall appoint a successor, subject to majority
approval by both houses of Congress. With Republicans in charge, that
means that Bush will be able to appoint whoever he wants, barring a
Democratic fillibuster, which will be justified, if Bush tries to appoint
someone who isn't really acceptable.
But knowing Bush, he'll appoint someone untainted by WMDgate, who is
worse than Cheney, further right wing, more offensive than Bush or Cheney.
That will be his best insurance against himself being impeached.
Otherwise, the fillibuster will hold until Bushis also impeached and then
the speaker of the house will be come president and name a VP. Ahhh. what
fun speculation can be.
