Dear President Obama,While the Republican booed, hissed, and made fools of themselves, you seem to be saying to we the American people that we will again be at the mercy of big corporate healthcare. You seem to be saying that you are willing to be brow-beaten by the corporate beasts and ignoramuses just so you can sacrifice the health of the average American.
We common Joes don't have a right to health care; rather big corporations have a right to make a profit from the sick. We the common Joes don't have a right to get a check-up if we can't afford it; because big corporations have a right to refuse care and deny claims.
We always talk about our proud fighters for freedom. We usually talk about some poor guy who got duped into fighting in Vietnam. He wasn't fighting for our freedom, but I will tell you who was. People like Martin Luther King, Jr. was fighting for our freedom. Those who protest to make life better here in America are fighting for freedom.
Mr. President, sir, you just missed your chance to fight for Americans by refusing to give them universal health care (or the public option). Fighting for freedom does not mean killing people, so munitions factories can make a buck. Fighting for freedom means standing for something that will help the American people.
I call on the progressives to grow a backbone, and ram universal health care through. Don't stop there either. Pull the plug on the wars and bloated defense budget. Mr. President, lead, follow or get the heck out of the way.
