"In this sense, ours is a kinder, gentler, more forgiving country than it was 40 years ago. But for half the public, it’s an unhappier country as well."
Why is it that he presumes that I am unhappy? I am not and for lots of good reasons that have nothing to do with the right wing's focus solely on what causes so much agony in women is the baby problem. Not all women have chosen to have children or to toil in the corporate world all their working lives.
Some of us are lesbians who have no need for children, have found a life-long partner that causes immense glee and feelings of blessedness every single day. Some of us have our own businesses and are more able to find a way to participate politically without making ourselves crazy trying to compete with the idiots who write for the NY Times.
Thus, I am not, nor is my partner, nor are any of the women I am friendly with unhappy. I would not answer a survey saying that I was. I feel totally involved in my life and while the world around me is in awful shape and I feel for those who are ill, unemployed, mentally ill or physically ill or lost or addicted. Much of those designators I have overcome and feel particularly proud and happy to be alive. Thank you very much NY Times. Perhaps they should revise their op-ed contributors to reflect those who are actually doing fine and would just like to have that acknowledged as well.
