.However unconscious, there is a desperate need to not ignore what this presidential campaign is all about -- what it's REALLY about..Perhaps it's easier to start with what it's NOT about: It's NOT about CLEARLY and PROMPTLY stopping the occupation and American participation in the slaughter in Iraq. NOT (perhaps in our lifetimes) about removing ALL American military from Iraq. NOT about finally pulling American soldiers out of 120 (!) other countries around the globe. NOT about tearing apart the oligopolies of Big Oil, Big Pharma, Big Agra, and Big Media. NOT about regulating Big Money in wreaking havoc to our economy, destroying good jobs, and decimating the middle class. NOT about a single-payer national medical system without an exploitive role for Big Insurance. And, it's a good bet, NOT about expeditiously sloughing off the executive usurpation made precedent across the past seven years..What is it REALLY about? Despite protestations of purely compulsively partisan fans and thinly guised motives to the contrary, the naked truth of what it is REALLY about is: Isn't it time for a woman to become president? Is it time for a black to become president? And finally: What we need is a John Wayne to stand tall and beat the bejesus out of (or into!) anybody that dares challenge America's sacred right to do whatever it wants to, wherever it wants to! .ISSUES? After months of campaigning, what REAL issue have we heard clearly and totally and straightforwardly enunciated? What CORRECTIONS have been honestly and courageously and necessarily and believably presented? That is, beyond (however subliminal) gender, race and the OK Corral? .Where to now? Perhaps to re-invent America. Perhaps to try something else. At the very least, it's long past time for the American electorate to awaken to their own best interests, or for us all to accept the grim costs of our inattention and disinterest.............Rafe Pilgrim
