In the Sikh religion, one of the main salutations is Sat Nam, which at core means "Truth, identity", and is typically translated as "Truth is your highest identity."
Even in the world of computers this phrase holds true, although technically, one would have to say "Truth is your only identity". Otherwise, you get GIGO, Garbage in, Garbage Out, bad programming, bad everything.
So for the human computer, Truth is likewise essential to good programming, to healthy living. This applies both to the individual and to the society he lives in.
But what is the axiom that the mainstream media in America live by? It is "Power is your highest identity." Jesus once rejected the offer of power that Satan made him in the wilderness, knowing that this way lies Death.
Not so CBS, CNN, FOXNEWS, NBC, ABC, even NPR! They all took the bait, replacing God and Truth with the State, and thus, consequently, the State replaces Truth as the paradigm of American civilization, and the mainstream media becomes its sleazy hand maiden, supporting the agendas of the State rather than questioning them.
This is the way totalitarian states are run. This is the way Stalinist Russia and Nazi Germany were run. This is the way America is now run for the millions who depend on the major media for their daily bromides and sound-bites replacing reality.
This is nowhere more evident than with the media blackout of the Winter Soldier Investigations in Silver Spring, Maryland from March 13 through March 16. You would think that the spectacle of several hundred servicemen and women and ex-servicemen and women who have served in Iraq gathering to expose major war crimes as well as maltreatment of veterans, not to mention Iraqis, would warrant at least a few seconds of coverage. But no, this is nowhere to be found. When I search the NBC, ABC, CBS, FOX NEWS, or even NPR websites, I get, at best, some links to the Vietnam Era Winter Soldier Investigation, if that. Oh, and there is some mention of a Winter Soldier character in a Captain America Marvel comicbook. That sums it all up, doesn't it? The Holocaust taking place in Iraq, trumped by a comic book in our cartoon culture.
It is time for the world to wake up and have a good laugh at what passes for the official Fourth Estate in America. It is an obscene joke. If truth is your higest identity, then what is your lowest identity? Lies! And the wages of lies are death. We know that Bush and Cheney have lied countless times, and will continue to lie countless times. Yet the media stands there like a deer frozen in the headlights, waiting to get run over. This is the ultimate outcome of worshipping power. One is frozen ethically and morally, if not actively embracing the Dark Side, like FOX NEWS does. This is the handbasket the mainstream media has crawled into on its way straight to Hell. Congratulations, fools.
But let's hope enough Americans get off this express train to perdition before it is too late. Let's hope that enough Americans still love Truth to salvage the nation. We must choose between Sat Nam or, figuratively speaking, Hail Ceasar as our daily salutation.
