You don't get it sir/Madam! The Hall of Fame is not about what you know or what you've accomplished; it is and has always been about whom you know and who can make you appear accomplished
Like all Conservative ventures, it is flooded with hypocrisy and exclusion. If it were up to the GW Bush's and John McCain's of the world, only Jesus and all of Bush/McCain's pals who never played the game would be considered. I take that back. Jesus hung out, by admission, with hookers, thieves and revolutionaries, besides he never even so much as threw a baseball and if he had he would have identified far more with Marvin Miller than Ford Frick or Bowie Kuhn, whom I, even as a boy thought was a pompous ass and even I should have been in that Hall of Fame long before he!
See, I don't believe men should be voted in by their contemporaries, or even within their generation. I think mathematicians should do the voting by using all the numbers available, including the systems I devised in Grammar school some of which are similar to the ones Bill James introduced.
None of the players should be voted in based on what others say about their private lives; whether they frequented whores, drank to excess, or were gluttons, or beat their wives, or slugged a cop, or were racists, or drug-takers, or whore mongers, womanizers, or Liberals or Conservatives, because the former would rule out Babe Ruth and the latter Bob Feller, and the rest would rule out everyone else. Today's talent is stretched beyond its happenstance by expansionism and avarice. The great skills that make up a player are determined by 20/10 vision of better, 20/05 vision, superhuman reflexes, incredible eye-hand coordination, speed and power-not some of those things all of them make a Hall of Famer and nothing else, certainly not their personalities, their Peccadilloes or their morality, but by the skills God gave them. The Catholic Church has a Hall of Fame for Morality and even they-my church cheat on who gets into it, so don't pander me on morality.
Ball players are not children safe, they are men who happen to have rare gifts. Those gifts have been sullied by lowering the mound by 44%, livening the baseball by 50%-60% over the Babe's day, squeezing the plate for slugger and extending it for pitchers and favoring the home team in umpire calls of all sort by a ratio, which I tested of 5.26:2.36.
Baseball Players are NOT children's role models, not today's spoiled rotten ultra-conservative children whom are driven the 4 blocks to school by Right Wing Bible-Reinterpreting moms. Jesus, who loved kids would probably boot some of today's kids in the butt and tell them to loosen up. Maybe instead he would kick their parents in the butt. Baseball is an adult sport, played by people with kid's love of a game they now play for high stakes.
