If Mexico became socialist would that undermine big agri-businesses or businesses that thrive on cheap labor? What about American businesses in Mexico?

::::::::

Quite some years ago when I left my ex-husband in Japan, I stayed in a safe house for women. Most of the women who came there had been illegally transported to Japan for prostitution. They were usually held hostage to the individual who stole them away until these women managed to get away or went completely insane.

I recall farm hands from Mexico who were kept in chicken coops or forced to sleep under the stars in summer. After the farmers were done with them, they migrated to other areas to work. The darker side of this reality is that the illegal part of immigration becomes an area for abuse. I often wonder if Mexico is kept as a second class state so that American corporations and big agri-businesses will have plenty of slave labor.

Because if we shipped them all back, they would probably overthrow their puppet government and install a socialist government. It would help the peasants in Mexico, but it would hurt big, gringo corporations in Mexico. It would also hurt big agriculture in this country. Illegal immigration does two things. It provides a safety valve for disgruntled peasantry in Mexico, and it provides big capitalists in this country with cheap labor. Remember their sham elections where Felipe Calderón Hinojosa was "elected"? The guy who was really elected was a socialist, Andrés Manuel López Obrador. Bigwig capitalist George Bush could not have a socialist government right next door.
