A) To get media to break the black-out about S. 1959, I thought we could ask readers to contact their County Supervisors, Mayors and City Councils, asking them to make public "NO" statements about S. 1959 the Homegrown Terrorism bill. That way, the local media and college newsletters will cover it. HOpefully the mainstream would become jealous and scoop the story. Bingo! Just what we want. And there are still about ten days left until Congress reconvenes. Emails can be sent to local officials and word can travel fast!
B) I am not an attorney, so this should be checked into. But I have to wonder if the matter can be tossed out as not legally binding, since the House voted for HR 1955 under suspended rule: According to atty. Bruce Fein (Washington Times.com, "Police in Thought Pursuit"), Pelosi said that the first amendment should not interfere with Congressional activities. Thus, the bill was "Voted" For basically blind, and was pushed through in one hour. No discourse: A rule which was suspended by "The Decider", Nancy Pelosi. Unconstitutional? Non-binding? Can this be tossed out on that basis? There also were 23 House members at a conference out of town when this was "voted" for.
C)I am issuing a public call for Sen. Collins and Rep. Harmon to step down from public office. Of course they won't, but that's beside the point. The point is this: Anybody with the nerve to target free speech/due process of law must be told to resign. And it's about time we Americans strut the stuff we are made of (maybe then Congress won't be able to literally get away with murder). Above all, I am hoping that a public call for resignation based on introducing highly unconstitutional legislation, will result in the Senate thinking twice before "Just saying YES" to S. 1959. Please join the call if you feel so inclined and that it's appropriate.
D) Another way to break through the media black-out might be to suggest that people contact their college newsletter editors. And their local papers, who might be inclined to print letters to the editor about it even if they don't themselves do a report.
E) Since our nation is governed by depression, may I be so forward as to suggest that to empower with hope would be key to spawning proactivity. Maybe if people are reminded that the more signatures lawmakers can wave, the better their backbone and clout on the Congressional floor. Therefore, our calls and letters WILL Make a difference. I think so many people feel that "it won't make a bit of difference if I call....sigh...." then they enable the rise of fascism through their silence. Please help with empowering tips and encouraging statements.
Thank you all for your help!
