When I attempt to decipher government I tend to think of two Either/Or's. Domestic versus foreign policy. In plain old politics, Republicans and Democrats still assert themselves.

Things look a little more problematic than they did in January 2009. Then there was Mr. Obama flying around in Air Force One. At the time I wished he would come down and tell us what he had on his mind. Obviously we were going to suffer meltdown worse than those conniving banks.

When I attempt to decipher government I tend to think of two Either/Or's. Domestic versus foreign policy. In plain old politics, Republicans and Democrats still assert themselves.

Am I going to feel secure with Social Security and Medicare next year? Already I've gone two years without an increase in my check. As far as healthcare is concerned I try to follow what I've always done--think wellness, not sickness. Make sure a pill will really help and curtail trips to doctors and ERs whenever possible.

Admitting to advanced years, the best thing I can do is keep a few smarts about me and avoid benefits unless I really need them. There are better things to do than to become a professional patient.

If you push 90 and sit by the TV and hear some pontificator tell what Granny wants in old age, turn the switch. If they try to sell you something over the phone hang up.

Then there is the group which ran into a real road block. More importantly, let's try to do something for that great demographic block called Boomers. They were dealt a bum deal. We need them to get jobs or do community service. If they're smart some of them will find ways to help us elderly.
