If you go to Wal-Mart on a Black Friday early in the morning, you will find thousands of shoppers lined up to buy the cheapest and latest garbage from China. They rush in to spend thousands of dollars on TVs, video games, toys for "Christmas". They do this to give "presents" to everyone, because everyone in their family needs a present. Why do people do this?Do they do this for charity because Jesus would give to the poor or do they do it because it is an obligation or do they do it so that they look good on Christmas giving the best junk that their credit cards can buy?
Frankly Christmas has absolutely nothing to do with any sort of Christian teaching as far as I can tell. If you were following Jesus you would give to the poor or serve in soup kitchens for Christmas. You would not be carving up dead animals and handing out lead lined stuff from China to YOUR children. To me it is a show of ego and little more. You are saying to everyone that you are powerful enough to purchase all these great looking things from China. You are powerful enough to line your wall with TVs even though you just watch the most idiotic things that our moronic brain dead media can think up.
Do our ego driven credit card wielding maniac shoppers realize that China pegs their currency to the dollar so they can literally drain the very life out of this country. Normally a stressed economy will have its currency fall and then its exports are cheaper and the imports are more expensive. Then the maniacs would have to buy American goods. China cheats the system and pegs their currency to their main target-- the US. Every time a customer purchases something made from China the money goes to China and to a billionaire in the US. Is this who we want to donate to?
What about the 20% who are out of work? What about hungry Americans? What about the Chinese workers who are literally chained to their job and sleep on the floor for a couple of hours before going back to make this heap of nonsense?
Christmas then is about enriching billionaires, enriching the Chinese elite, and forcing poor workers to make lead lined junk to slam under the plastic Christmas tree or it's about chopping down a bunch of trees and then throwing them in the garbage. It's about buying stuff that people hate. It's about waiting in line to scream at some poor underpaid worker about a toy that you didn't like and want to return.
What then would Jesus buy?
