This should be John Kerry's next statement:Men and women of the armed forces, if my attempt at humor was insulting to you, you have my sincerest apology. To the president and the vice president- I will never utter a word of apology to a deserter and a draft dodger who by their lies and deceit have brought shame and dishonor on this country and have without cause shed so much blood.
I will apologize to the American people for my lack of wisdom as I swallowed the lies from this administration and voted to authorize the heinous tragedy that ensued in Iraq. I never thought the White House would be populated by people who detest the constitution so much or who so laud torture and illegality. Never will I seek appeasement by uttering the words "I'm sorry" to them or to those of their ilk.
May just retribution never rain down on the good people of this country because of the foul machinations of those of us who so poorly pretend to lead.
John Kerry, retiring senator from Massachusetts.
Anyone foolish enough to take the bet that Kerry will take the high road? Maybe 2008 will lend us better choices for the presidency than we had in 2004. But don't wager the farm on it.
