The Jewish carpenter sits in prison for conspiring to blow up a Jerusalem Girl's School. His seven-year-old son is attacked by an axe-wielding Palestinian. The son escapes death, but his 13-year-old mate is not so lucky.

Settlers Mourn Deadly Attack on Two Children

One settler boy axed to death and another severely wounded, the Arab smear machine has contrived to vindicate the Palestinian axe murderer. Uncritical viewers on Aljazeera want to believe these lies. Once the lies reach the public no amount of truth telling will erase them. Ironically, this damages the perception of the viewers as they re-act foolishly to the disinformation.

The expected Jewish knee-jerk reaction was slower, but equally predictable regarding a border post that had been abandoned.

Israeli Justice and Arab Revenge

Residents of the West Bank settlement of Bat Ayin, where an axe-wielding terrorist had killed a 13-year-old boy and wounded a 7-year-old, voiced rage on Thursday over the government's "left-wing policies" which they argued had made the attack possible.

In a statement prepared by a settler committee, they said: "Once again it has been proven that when roadblocks and checkpoints are removed, Jewish blood is spilled. We urge the new government to put an end to the left-wing policy of capitulation and groveling to the Arabs, and begin worrying about the safety of the Jews--and once and for all put an end to the Arab terror and destroy the hopes of the Arab enemy of ever establishing a Palestinian state on Israeli soil."

Israeli Settlers Mourn

The 13-year-old killed in Thursday's terror attack in Bat Ayin has been identified as Shlomo Nativ, the son of Haim and Ravital Nativ, one of the original settlers who founded Bat Ayin, a community of secular-cum-religious Jews.

The 7-year-old wounded in the attack has been identified as Yair Gamliel, the son of Ofer Gamliel, who is currently serving a prison sentence for his involvement in planning a terror attack.

According to court documents, Bat Ayin's underground planned to carry out an attack at a girls' school in the A-Tor neighborhood in East Jerusalem.

The settlement's underground was active on the West Bank and in East Jerusalem during the early years of the Second Intifada. Three of its members were residents of Bat Ayn, which is in the western part of Gush Etzion.

In April 2002, police arrested Shlomo Dvir, Yarden Morag and Ofer Gamliel, Bat Ayin underground members, who were later convicted of attempting to place an explosive device near the East Jerusalem school.

Morag and Gamliel were sentenced to 15 years each, while Dvir was sentenced to 12 years. Additional Bat Ayin residents were arrested and convicted in connection to the attempted attack.

Gamliel, 47, is a carpenter and father of seven children.

Victim's Father in Prison

Six months ago, he went on a hunger strike to protest the conditions in jail.

Last October, Interior Minister Eli Yishai asked President Shimon Peres to intervene on behalf of Gamliel and his associates to improve the conditions of their imprisonment.
