Human beings should not be treated as scapegoats to be tortured and violated into submission while white collar criminals hide behind the confusion. Controlling thoughts like these fill our prisons and mental institutions as those who selectively see costs, spread a sickness that affects us all. These preditory forces rise and fall in a continual cycle as they munipulate numbers and profits. The fruits of labor and sacrifice get redistributed as we are sold theories of teamwork.Allen Ginsberg in "America" speaks of an America with angelic possibilities. He also speaks of an America that places unrealistic demands on people as it complicates actions like sending food to the hungry. He talks of a human war based on fear where scapegoats are created.
Martin Luther King was critical of our foreign policy in his "Beyond Vietnam" speech in 1967. He was dedicated to healing the dividing lines between rich and poor. King commented that there was something wrong when we pay $500,000.00 to kill each enemy combatant while we spend only $53.00 for the poor and most of that goes to the salaries of those who deliver the aid.
"Assembly Line" by B. Traven contrasts the artistic baskets made by a Mexican Indian to an entrepreneurs' desire for profits. It highlights the costs of mass production and the loss of artistic quality that accompanies it.
Our system should not reward inhumanity. We should demand accountability from the top and within ourselves. We can become angelic.
