The eyes of my heart envision the empty shells of war.

::::::::

Empty Shells

Wars Leave Behind Them Empty Shells

Their manner strong yet gentle, never brash or loud

Not meaning to be different, they stand out in the crowd

Beckoned to the call, they defended this great land

Risked their lives, gave their all, marching hand in hand

They should wear a purple heart, heroes brave and true

Innocent people dying, yet nothing they could do

Bloodshed all around them, yet for freedom took a stand

Though shells and bodies hit the ground, at times on sinking sand

More Empty Shells

Oh, wars leave behind them empty shells

Used up ammunition, hearts where terror dwells

They saw things we'll never see, their souls too weak to tell

For wars leave behind them empty shells

No Escaping the Memories

Many soldiers share this world still every night and day

But can't escape the memories as on their knees they pray

Deep inside they'll always be an aching empty shell

Dear Lord, please heal their scars where shadows sadly fell
