Warrior nation or nation of peace, you can't have it both ways. As a nation, over 90% claim to believe in God and about 70% call themselves some form of "christian". It is said by some in high places that this is a "christian" nation or founded on "christian" principles. This couldn't be more hypocritical. This is a warrior nation and has always been so we should at least get beyond denial and call ourselves what we are.
We need look no further than the fact that we have more WMDs (especially nuclear) than the rest of the world combined. Not only that, but we are the only country to have used nuclear weapons not once but twice.
I could go on and on but no further evidence is required. The possesion of and threatened use of these obscene weapons of unspeakable horror defines our consciousness as a people.
We are primitive and barbaric and there is very little appearance of hope for a more enlightened consciousness in the forseeable future. Whether we use these weapons or not (and we will eventually and possibly in the near future,) just the fact that we consider this as a possibility tells who we are.
We are already the walking dead in mind and spirit so the physical death to come is only an afterthought.
