Well, not exactly no heat, but no central heating system. This super-insulated house design uses an air exchanger to recirculate air. Appliance, body heat, and south-facing windows provide warmth in central Germany. (It is a NYTimes science article, so you may need to log in there--it's easy, and I've seen no downside after several years of reading there).
