the hazards of exposure to internet news. How it has effected me and the theoretical idea of what I would do if asked by God the ultimate question of man's fate.

::::::::

While stuck at home recuperating from a fractured vertebrae and a stress related heart attack, I spent a few hours surfing the internet. I found myself watching a series of videos that described a variety of horrendous acts. Children being kidnapped and presumed dead while mothers are presumed guilty for waiting 31 days to report her daughter's disappearance; Psychiatrists having dinner with a patient while conspiring to kill someone; Animal abuse of the worse kind, the list goes on and on and on.

Once I began feeling the pangs of excruciating pain in my back I knew it was time to get off the computer. I settled down in my bed hoping to ease the stabbing pains I am now so familiar with. I switched on the TV to watch the news and it was then I felt the knot in my stomach. Nausea threatened to overwhelm me. I realized I had been over dosed with the ugliness mankind is so completely capable of.

This feeling was to stay with me through the night causing me to toss and turn through yet another sleepless encounter. The few hours of sleep I did get were plagued with visions of the cruelty I had viewed. I began to wonder....

What if, when I died, The Almighty came to me and asked, "What have you learned during your time on Earth? Is mankind worth saving?"

I have thought about this quite a bit and I can honestly say, I don't know. I don't know what I would say. To understand why I could not jump up and say that I thought the human race was basically good and decent, you would have to understand what I have seen in my life, the horrors I have been through, the mistreatment I have endured at the hands of people I have trusted, expressed kindness to and compassion for. Even as a child I puzzled over why people were so cruel. I still don't understand.

Some people go through life and never experience any thing more traumatic than a hangnail. They have never known poverty or those who live in it. How can these people relate to such thing when they never get any closer to it than the nightly news? Or the man that stands on the corner with a sign that says, "Will work for food." How easy it is to keep on driving muttering something about why these people don't get a job? Ever try to get a job without an address to put on the application? You can't even get food stamps without an address. Many of these people are Veterans, some are mentally ill. Their problems are real. It doesn't make them bad or evil. Evil is reserved for those that maim innocent animal or those that harm children. And, let's not get started on the abuses of WAR.

Senator McCain stated that an unborn child should have the same rights as all those living. What about the rights of the mother? Where are my rights as a woman? He wants to grant full rights to a couple of cells (from inception) yet has no problem going to war to kill the hundreds of innocent people that get caught in the crossfire as collateral damage. Where are their rights?

No, My Dear God, PLEASE, don't ask that question of me. I am afraid of what I might say.
