Fred Kunkle over at WAPO cites federal excise tax data indicating that there has been a 10% increase in the purchase of firearms and ammo this year over last year.
I do not believe this number includes gunshow information, but the article does offer some anecdotal quotes that drop the dung at the doorstep of the Obama candidacy.

Please, gun-toters...find a more realistic avenue for your racism. I'm buying guns and ammo to protect ME from YOU and from unlawful law enforcement and illegal military deployments.
