A year or so ago, I had uneventfully purchased a vacuum cleaner & bags online from http://www.govaccum.com with my bank's combination credit/debit card. A couple of days ago, I realized it was time to buy more bags. I selected to pay utilizing my bank's combination credit/debit card. I printed my receipts from the website as well as printed my confirmation by email. The next morning I found nothing resembling a vacuum cleaner bag purchase on my personal bank account info. I found a correct amount of money charged not by http://www.govaccum.com but by "Paypal" not indicating what I had purchased. I called my bank, the vacuum place, "Paypal", yahoo (the hosting website for the vacuum store) and the Federal Trade Commission. Another 24 hours and I was able to see that my bank had removed the charge by paypal (never had an account & don't want one)and substituted the real merchant, http://www.govaccum.com. I received a creepy email from "paypal.feedback@echosurvey.com" It reads "Dear Jane Schiff, On 07/15/2009 I spoke to you regarding your PayPal account"...
To clarify to anyone reading this, I never had a PayPal account & never will. As I started hunting around for PayPal's corporate info, I came upon this:
