It is remarkable that she retains her cheerful and lovely character, as you will see in this video. Perhaps her warmth and love moved Divinity to bless her, because she has become one of the lucky few able to come to America for medical assistance. Now, let us realize that what has happened to Salee has also happened to thousands of other Iraqi men, women and children in Iraq, and will continue to happen until the world can stop this horror. What we are doing to Iraq is the cruel nexus of manipulated fear, of reactionary religious fundamentalism that demonizes Moslems, of deep-seeded American racism against black and brown-skinned peoples, of alienating and alienated Imperialist ideology that reduces humans to objects, and of sheer sadism on unprecedented levels that grows out of an unnatural culture. America is gripped by an emotional plague that will not be abated until we really, really collectively look ourselves in the mirror and own up to the monsters lurking within us. And deep penance will be in order too. Only then can we expunge them.
Unless America can develop adequate introspection and undergo some manner of healing, then what we are now doing or have done to much of humanity, we will ultimately do to ourselves. You can’t be part-time depraved, part-time normal and not become more and more psychotic over time. This is what thousands of returning GIs are struggling with now. Their souls have been shredded by destroying the innocent and this is a terrible burden to bear. Some of them have degenerated into alcoholics and drug-addicts, others have unleashed new violence on their own families and friends, or tragically, upon themselves, or fallen into criminality.
America is presently beset by a Corporate Fascist culture. The underlying human condition in this culture is alienation, fear and loathing. A truly human culture has yet to arise on any institutional basis. Changing presidents or parties will not go to the root of the problem. An entirely new spiritual, emotional, political, educational and economic paradigm is needed.
