What is wrong with the health care system? For starters, the sicker we are the more money the health care providers make. So their concern for our good health has some obvious draw backs for them. What if instead, we choose our primary health provider and payed them sort of an insurance premium. As long as we remained healthy they got to keep the money. If we got sick, we stop payments until we were well and the primary would have to pony up for all the medicine and care provided by anyone else, including second opinions.
Sure would increase a health care providers interest in keeping us well wouldn't it? A lot less extemporaneous testing would go on too. As it stands now the insurance company has no particular interest in keeping us healthy, just in keeping our money. The providers have no motivation besides altruism in keeping us healthy. As we have historically seen altruism doesn't carry a whole lot of weight in humans.
I bet a lot of prescriptions would be voided or not even prescribed. It sure would put responsibility for health care in the hands and pocketbooks it belongs in. Probably would never happen though, too many people have a vested interest in keeping the status quo. You know, like the entire health care system. They have us bent over a barrel backwards and their hands in our pockets, why would they want to allow that to change?
