Message Grant Lawrence

The Miwok Tribe is fighting a private developer and the Bureau of Indian Affairs from building a Casino that they say violates their tribal rights. Silvia Burley, Miwok tribal Chairperson, and others barricaded themselves in tribal offices in the face of an eviction notice several days ago.

The Miwok tribe needs any and all support that they can get.

I spoke with Sylvia Burley at the tribal office this Saturday evening (6/20/09). She is a very brave and compassionate person doing her best to help her tribe and look out for the interests of her people. She tells me that she is concerned for the tribal woman and children but that they pray to the ancestors for guidance and the help of others.

I told her that the news of the standoff is being spread around the world and that those with good and wise hearts are there to help the Miwok people in this injustice.

Sylvia is a very beautiful spirit that is doing her best against the unjust power of the American BIA and governmental interests.
Judy Lopez and I will talk to Sylvia about the injustice and how the we can help this Tues. at 9pm Est at DreamCatcher Entertainment or you can go to Grant Lawrence Bodhi Thunder and click on the Widget at the side of the blog to listen.

If you can help, please do not hesitate calling Silvia Burley, Chairperson of the California Valley Miwok Tribal Council, at 209 931 4567.

We need immediate assistance, this is the outcome from the Superintendent.... at the Central California Agency/BIA, located in Sacramento Calif. continued efforts to illegally interfere into our Tribal Governmental Affairs (and the effects of our rightful Tribal members pleas for assistance, being ignored by the Bureau). We are a federally recognized Tribe, listed in the Federal Register and in the Dept. of the Interior/Bureau of Indian Affairs, Tribal Leaders Directory, Winter 2009.

Because our pleas for help have been constantly ignored, we now have lost our only piece of tribal property to foreclosure and will be removed by force on June 17th, 2009 (Elders and children included). We are asking for your assistance.....
