United States Senator John McCain ( R-AZ) by Flickr
One hundred and forty-seven countries, including the United States,
Senator McCain, are party to
the United Nations Convention Against
Torture (CAT), meaning that those
countries have committed to promptly
investigate, prosecute, and punish
torturers.
While the United States has thus far failed to comply with
it's obligations
under the CAT, our nation does nevertheless remain legally and morally
obligated to prosecute one
George W. Bush, who remains at large in our
territory, and who we may
reasonably believe has committed horrifying and dastardly crimes of torture.
According to the
Indictment, former President Bush bears individual and
command responsibility
for the acts of his subordinates, as well, which he
ordered, authorized, condoned, or
otherwise aided and abetted, as well
as for violations committed by his
subordinates, which he failed to
prevent or punish.
In particular, Bush is alleged to have authorized or overseen enforced
disappearances and secret detentions, extraordinary renditions,
waterboardings,
exposure to extreme temperatures, sleep deprivations,
punching, kicking,
isolations in "coffin" cells for prolonged periods, threats
of bad treatment,
solitary confinements, and forced nudities.
In view of the horrifying nature of this Indictment, commence to
introduce and support a United States Torture Indictment in Congress for
one George W. Bush and proceed to prosecute the alleged torturer for
crimes of torture.
