Crap we buy by Google Images
I have to admit that in spite of my strong support for OWS, I find it inconceivable that 99% of the people are for it. This belief is reinforced daily, as I look around and then have it rubbed in my face yet more when I read the news.
I suspect that if an accurate accounting of the folks who are even semi-aware of things happening in the U.S. today, let alone the world, were able to be made, we'd come up with a figure closer to Margaret Mead's notorious 2%, the percent of people who typically initiate and bring about positive change. Maybe the number is higher, and I hope I'm wrong, as I usually do and often am.
Meanwhile, having read what I could stomach of "Black Friday," which wasn't much, I believe this really is a wonderful time of the year--to review Annie Leonard's telling video of the crap we buy, where it comes from, how it's made, how it gets to us, and where it goes, among other things: click here
