To: President Barack Obama, The Honorable Adam Smith, The Honorable Patty Murray, and the Honorable Maria Cantwell,While the US pours billions of dollars down the gaping, voracious mouths of greedy, wasteful banks, our creditors’ economies are facing the reality of a depression. Japan is reeling under financial strain, and China is suffering as well. We can no longer afford extravagant, voodoo economics based on the funds from other countries. We cannot ask our creditors to give us more money while their own countries face devastation.
It’s time to get real. The US cannot afford to spend more than it makes. If our creditors can’t give us any more money, then what are we going to do? We need to begin taxing those who can afford to be taxed to raise our own money. We would need to begin taxing the wealthy heavily.
The next thing we need to do is we need to make some deep cuts. If you cut health care and food, you will have riots. You must cut our over bloated Defense spending. The defense contractors need to be retooled to make something else besides weaponry. We cannot maintain an empire of military bases forever. These bases are mostly leftovers from World War II and are reminiscent of the British Empire’s holdings. We cannot afford a bunch of useless, wasteful wars either. Forget bombing some “terrorists” in a far-flung mountain. Our biggest threat is the Defense department’s wasteful spending not a few guys living in a cave.
I would also suggest that you cut the policing elements in the US government. We have the FBI, the CIA, the NSA, Homeland Security, and heaven knows what else. Stop all the policing and spying and streamline it. We have so many prisoners now we can’t even afford to house them all.
Instead of wasting more money on the criminals who destroyed the entire world economy, I suggest that you nationalize the banks and arrest and imprison the individuals responsible for this fiasco. They don’t need a bonus, and they don’t need a salary. They need a prison jump suit. These individuals have done far more damage to the US and the world than a few “terrorists”.
