we're law abiding citizens. They won't bother us.

::::::::

Shhhhhh, shhhhh, shhh, it's okay baby. Mama's here to protect you. It's gonna be okay. Do you remember last summer when we were in gramma's garden? You've grown a lot since then. The tomato plants were taller. The world looks so big when you're little. It's not really all that big. Would you believe a man has sailed all the way across the world, from one place to another to another and another, circling the planet until he returned to the same port his journey began at without ever going to the same place twice? That's how small the world is. Another way to tell how small the world is, is when you go somewhere far away, like Waechstersbach, and once you're there you see someone you know from somewhere else. It happens all the time, I tell you. All the time.

Shhhhhh, shhhhh, shhh, it's okay baby. Cover your ears. Mama is here. Everything is going to be okay. Daddy's gonna come home soon and then we'll go visit gramma again. We can all go out and play in the garden. Gypsy will be happy to see you again. She's such a pretty cat. You remember, don't you baby? Hey, it's okay, please don't cry. Stop your crying now, okay? Everything's gonna be okay. Daddy's gonna come home soon, I promise.

Jo, do you think they know where we are? Is there any chance they can find us here?

I don't think so. They'll be looking for us in town somewhere. We're safe here with the old woman. Besides, her garden will keep us alive for months as long as the SS doesn't show up first.

First chance we get, we need to get a message to the other guys. Were you able to see if there's a bicycle in the barn?

Enjoy your soup Darlin'.

But I can't eat with all that noise out there.

Honey, it's just the Police. They're there to protect us from thieves and the like. Did you hear the news today? A bomb went off in town square over in Hoerbach. Killed fifteen people. Damned communists!

But what if, what if they turn on us? I mean, the SS has become so powerful.....

You can wash that kind of thoughts from you pretty mind my precious. We're law abiding citizens. They won't bother us.
