This sequence of words attempting to explain the true purpose of time was inspired by and adapted from a section of Chapter 2 of the book "A Course in Miracles". I hope that you will read it (if you have a little spare time) and perhaps be inspired yourself to read more in this great book.

::::::::

If we do not properly understand and appreciate it, the Last Judgment can be one of the most frightening and threatening ideas for us to contemplate. However, if  we objectively examine and properly understand it, the Last Judgment is seen as the doorway to life.

Contrary to our misconceptions of the Final Judgment as a meting out of what we consider to be well-deserved punishment, the Final Judgment is really a final healing. It is a process of right evaluation, where we finally come to understand what is worthy and what is not. Once we correctly understand this, our ability to choose can be directed rationally. However, until we make this distinction, our vacillations between being free and imprisoned will continue.

The first step towards freedom involves sorting out the false from the true. Ultimately, each of us will look upon his creations and choose to preserve only what is good, just as God Himself looked upon what He had created and knew that it was good. Only then can our minds begin to look with love on our creations, because of their worthiness. At the same time, we will disown our miscreations and they will cease to exist once we withdraw our belief in them.

To avoid confusion between magic and miracles, it is essential for us to remember that we did not create ourselves. If we allow ourselves to forget this truth and become egocentric, we put ourselves in a position where belief in magic becomes virtually inevitable.

We must remember that our individual wills to create were given to us by our Creator, Whose Will is expressed in His Creation. Creative ability is in the mind; therefore everything that has ever been created is, by necessity, a matter of will.

We can not properly understand the Last Judgment until we recognize that judgment is not an attribute of God. Judgment was brought into being only after the separation, when it became a necessary learning device built into the overall plan.

While time and space are under God’s control, we can shorten the length of time until the Last Judgment by freeing ourselves from fear. The purpose of time is to “give us time” to achieve this perfect judgment of our own perfect creations. When everything we retain is lovable, there is no reason for fear to remain. Once we have emerged from conflict ourselves, we can bring peace to other minds. This then is our part in the ultimate healing.
