It's time to reign back the program.

::::::::

Recently George Carlin was on Countdown and he said he was a fan of the program.  A minute or two later he honed his statement by saying he liked the first 35 minutes.  Apparently the producers and directors and writers of Countdown, not to mention Keith Olbermann himself, did not hear that trenchant comment.  Countdown continues to be the best liberal point of view news hour after Bill Moyers Journal.  Countdown is daily and the Journal weekly, so Keith has a special responsibility that goes along with his fivefold exposure.  I and virtually everyone with whom I have spoken would really like Countdown to just quietly drop the Spears, Lohan, and Hilton coverage immediately.  Go cold turkey on that, please.  Also please stop throwing the script at the cameraman.  After the show go back and punch out someone for putting those stupid things into our news program.

The more disturbing new feature of Countdown is not the new set.  It is a good looking set and the smaller desk seems appropriate to the amount of investigative news actually unearthed by MSNBC.  The new problem is Keith Olbermann showing clips of Bush and Cheney and then offering his not-so-trenchant analysis of their speechifying.  Look, no one expects either Bush or Cheney to be anything but what they are.  They are more frightened of al Qaeda than anyone in the country and they believe almost everything they say.  That's two out of 300 million.  So, why belabor the point.  It would be much better if your MSNBC crack news staff got to work and gave us new and credible analyses of the Democrats continued flakey behavior in Congress.  It would be better if we learned the true story of the bombing of the Syrian nuclear site.  Was it USAF aircraft?  Was it a tactical nuclear bomb they dropped?

It is just too hard to believe that the entire resources of General Electric, NBC, CNBC, and MSNBC cannot fill an entire hour with real news done professionally five nights a week!
