Well, here's what we do know, or should know. The literal prophecies of all the world's religions foretell that the humble, gentle, peaceful and "meek" shall inherit the earth, make amends, make peace, transform our "swords into plowshares," and clean up the mess that man has made.
Whether you believe in the coming of a Mashiach or Messiah-Christ or Siddhi-Avatar or Buddha or Imam Mahdi or Saoshyant or Sage, or whether you believe in the coming of Melchizedek or Pahana or Kukulcan or Quetzalcoatl, it apparently doesn't matter. All those are titles or names for a person who's presence and influence is supposed to bring about the conclusion of the conflict and war we've been plagued with, establish peace, and show us the way to come together in common purpose for the common good.
I believe that. It makes sense to me. In fact, it's the only thing that makes sense to me. But most people think it's an impossible dream.
Most people think it's an impossible dream because they are deeply invested in their beliefs, whether their beliefs lead them to be politically apathetic or very active in partisan party politics, or whether their beliefs lead them to be atheists or agnostics or religious zealots.
If they are activists, they tend to be in favor of a particular religious and/or a particular political group that is in opposition to others. Even worse, they also tend to be reticent to accept new ideas because their beliefs are set. They are convinced they are right, and others are wrong.
Is it any wonder humanity is divided, polarized, and stuck in this quagmire?
Granted, there is right vs wrong, and there is truth vs falsehood. The question is, who is to judge?
There is a very good reason why each religion has prophecies that speak of one to come who will issue judgement, guide us to truth, and show us things to come.
The Judge is called many things. For example, Jesus of Nazareth said God gives the son of man the authority to execute judgment, and yet Jesus himself said he had not come to judge the world, but there would be another who would. In fact, he said he himself had to go away and be seen no more, but one would come to fulfill his prophecies and glorify him.
Many Christians don't understand that, just as many Jews and Muslims don't understand the prophecies that all point to the same truth and foretell the same future. And they don't understand that those prophecies are very similar to the prophecies of other religions that foretell the same thing. They are too invested in thinking that their religion will prevail and be dominant.
A truly enlightened person who has Wisdom, is above that. He has true Judgment. He shows us how and why all the religions are supposed to teach the same universal divine imperative: treat all others as you would want to be treated if you were them.
He shows us how and why all governments are supposed to represent the people all the people and be of the people, by the people, and for the people all the people all the time.
He shows us how and why we must reject those who fight each other for power over us, whether it's in the name of religion, or whether it's in the name of patriotism.
He shows us how and why we must not confront power with angry words, or slander, or malice, or violence. Rather, we must, through peaceful assembly, make our voices heard with the demand for fairness, equity, and ethical behavior.
He shows us how and why we must demand a reformation of government, so that it is truly representative, so that it is not beholden to the wealthy or their corporations, but rather serves the interests of the vast, overwhelming majority of the people.
He also shows us how and why we must demand a reformation of religion, particularly of the Abrahamic religions (Judaism, Christianity and Islam) so that they may become what they were intended to be ---a family of religions that belong to a far greater family, including Buddhists, Hindus, Taoists, and all the other religions that have the same core belief, that we should treat all others as we would want to be treated if we were them.
Is there such a person? Of course. He goes by the pen name of Joseph J. Adamson. His work can, and I believe will, empower us and enable us to liberate ourselves from all those who want to rule over us in the name of religion or patriotism.
