I'm impressed with the media overkill of the corpse of Michael Jackson. He's never sold so many records or had so much air play of his music and videos. I won't be so cynical as to wonder if he is really dead, however, it's indisputable that he is worth much more dead than alive. Perhaps the monetization of the career of Michael Jackson to "prop" up the ponzi scheme that was Michael Jackson was a move whose time had come, inevitable as a GM bailout and a born again from the ashes GM with the IPO due in 2010.
We also have the Doctor Feelgood lurking with his candy treats to make a delusion seem palatable, almost real life like. Throw is a dash of OJ with the actions of the LA Police being suddenly scrutinized, and now this sensational story has, like the archives of Michael Jackson, taken on a life of its own.
The Ken Lay archetype has shown the way for in trouble celebs to escape their legal travails and debt obligations. I suppose if you're worth more dead than alive then the only sensible thing to do, in our monetized world, is to just die. Is Michael really dead, or is he just off to the side lines laughing at the endless tribute to the artistic creation and icon we came to know as him? I don't know the answer to that, but either way he is finally free of the madness.
We never get to know the people behind the masks of our favorite pop icons, they are mostly fabrications by media whose intentions are to often subliminally affect culture. Anyway, go join the others who have "moved on" before you and have fun Michael Jackson.
