Two days ago I posted a diary to Daily Kos explaining how a Green candidate had lost my Green vote to a Democrat. I'm a registered Green and will usually vote a straight Green Party ticket. Where there's no Green on the ballot I'll look for the most progressive candidate I can find, sometimes Peace & Freedom, sometimes Democrat, and sometimes a write-in. Here in California the Green Party candidate for Secretary of State, Forrest Hill, has the same position on election integrity as the Democratic candidate, State Senator Debra Bowen. Had Forrest shown himself to be more progressive, coming out for hand-counted paper ballots instead of voting machines, I'd have voted for him. But since he favors open source code (see the series of articles on opednews.com by Bruce O'Dell for why that is not a satisfactory solution) and more monitoring, which is the same position that Debra has, I have no reason not to vote for Debra. To my surprise, yesterday somebody posted another diary on Daily Kos in response to mine, explaining why the Democratic candidate in their election for Secretary of State, had lost his vote to the Green candidate. The Democrat supports Diebold machines and the Green doesn't. Since there is no Republican in the race, he's decided to vote for the Green.
But somebody responded to his diary with anger, saying that they would never vote for a Green or a Republican, and that they would prefer a "Diebold Democrat" to either one!
Don't they know that the Diebold voting machine corporation is headed by a Republican who is pledged to deliver elections to Republicans? Don't they know that this appears to be exactly what Diebold did in Florida, Ohio, Georgia and other states in recent elections? Don't they realize that a "Diebold Democrat" IS a Republican?
I guess not. So now it appears that those of us who support election integrity are up against two enemies, both of whom are established, powerful, and have huge budgets: The Diebold Republicans and the Diebold Democrats. Never before I have I felt so vindicated for voting Green.
