In the midst of two wars, record unemployment and the greatest economic mess in a generation, a CNN reporter today decided to use his daily briefing question to ask White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs if President Obama actually bowed to King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia when he met him.
What???
Is this honestly what our intelligent, “hard-nosed” media has come to? We expect this kind of posturing from politicians but our media is supposed to be above this kind of nonsense.
My thought is that the laser-beamed focus that’s been placed on this non-issue is nothing more than one big male ego trip run amok…and it’s being played out in the media. I love my men dearly (hell, I’m married to one) but you don’t hear anyone but men trying to play up this “punk” mess and it’s sickening to have it played against a U.S. President.
Obama bowed to Queen Elizabeth and no one said anything. It looks like he may have bowed to King Abdullah and he gets lambasted.
If the tables were turned and Prince Phillip (in Great Britain) were instead King Phillip and Obama had bowed slightly when he met him, I really don’t think there would be this level of major outcry.
Many would just view it, and correctly so, as some sort of royal protocol (not unlike him removing his shoes before he entered the Blue Mosque...it's not a sign of weakness, it's a sign of respect). I honestly believe that this is only a big story because it just happened to be King Abdullah (Muslim) of Saudi Arabia.
People get over it already! It’s this same kind of male ego-tripping that gets us into domestic riots, overseas conflicts and ill-advised wars.
My final question: Who cares???
Can someone please tell me how does this affect our economy? How would it affect Obama’s housing policies? Who gets a job because of this?
If this is the worst thing President Obama does in the next four years, then I can get over it.
