It may surprise many Democrats when, if after Obama wins, the anti-war movement doesn't disappear and stop protesting. It shouldn't though. When you expand the war on Afghanistan, and waffle on completely ending the criminal war on Iraq (if you haven't heard of the "residual force" you haven't done your homework), you become something worth protesting. What will Dems do then? Denounce the protesters? Join them?Don't forget, Lyndon Johnson (D) led the escalation against Vietnam long before Nixon (R) took it over, ironically, promising to end it "with honor". The most intense part of the Vietnam war, from 1964-73, was incredibly difficult to end despite the fact that more Americans were fighting in it than are fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan now.
When the next anniversary of the Iraq war comes around in March 2009, there will be people in the streets if Obama or McCain wins, as they should be. There will still be a lot to protest, and many constructive actions necessary to grind the war machine to a halt and take its resources for human needs.
