A good, intelligent and honorable friend briefly advises the state of the Union as follows:
"Fascism in action: Squelch dissent. Harm dissenters and teach them a lesson. Never let the truth be known. Hire Nazi cops to protect the bad guys and attack the good. Preserve the status quo at all costs. Never let basic human needs get in the way of more profit and power. Keep electing megalomaniacal stooges and corporate shills. Command and control the media and the message. Numb the people with non-issues, religion and fear. More war. Less sex. No college. Let sick people die and the hungry starve. Suffocate protesters with low frequency speakers. Fiddle while the empire burns.

Now from this greybeard who as a child in Saturday matinees cheered on Errol Flynn's slaughter of the Native American savages ---
Where now is America going? Everybody has his own favorite version. I now personally sense the impact in the flaws from the -- yes -- even then imperfect America to the ever morphing deteriorating America beginning with the Korean War (which I was still much too young and naive to grasp at the time) then massively escalating with Viet Nam, but the point that galls me most is the ascension of Reagan and the massive dumbness that it fostered in the electorate as the mantra of "deregulation" accompanied by the tune of "God Bless America" beat down the decency that good government can provide in exchange for the virtue of Greed and the exploitation by its captains.

All government became "bad," and Greed was its sanctified successor, and the "great American people" obtusely cheered on the retrogression, as it descended each year with the accompaniment of Nazi-like flag waving and finally the Bush propaganda, with ultimately descent to the "support our troops" mantra (no matter the gross treachery and slaughter that it embraced) that even protestors dared not counter.
Then comes Obama with his "Hope" and "Change," a slicker packaging of the Bush treachery, disguised by superior lying atop more of the same obscene warring and trashing of our Bill of Rights.
And now after all those years, what are we left with? A massively ever more moronic electorate that seriously proposes we have no choice but to support and vote for the "lesser-evil" choice, however duplicitous and treacherous. So it's to be Stalin over Hitler? Or is it vice versa? And that's America???!!! And did I mention that, either way, God is on our side?
So there's their imperative: Jump on "our" party's bandwagon to support EVIL, or we'll get WORSE EVIL! History disagrees however. It says that bad government is always supplanted by other government -- better or worse -- from forces within a nation or from elsewhere. The forces within can be as reasonable as permitted or revolutionary. The forces from elsewhere are typically brutal and have scant regard for the losers who could not even run their own affairs decently, nor even in their own best interests.
Considering all that and compelled to believe that neither of our major partisan persuasions will voluntarily veer into a course toward sainthood, I heartily endorse that we are now best served by the proposition that: "Occupy Spring is going to get hot!"
