Recently, Steven King's 'The Stand" once again ran on television. It
depicts
a future when a man-made major virus kills off most of mankind, leaving two
opposing forces battling over who 'wins'; basic decency.... or greed and
power,
with the persona known as "Flagg", as the epitome of evil.

Although produced in 1994, 'The Stand' seems to apply it's message to
the present day.

We see evil intent from those that truly worship only money and power.
It seems that's all they want - at the expense of the rest of humanity.
So among their evil desires must be the feeling that they must win,
in every case. These 'wins' are reflections of how they see themselves;
they must win because they believe they deserve it. Where the sin enters,
is in the idea that they are racially superior (Germany-Nazi), or that
they got their money and power because they are wiser and brighter
than the rest of the masses (The Illuminati, Bilderburger, Tri-lateral
outlook). In either case, being born into wealth feeds that kind of
personality, one that assumes such 'responsibility of power' and
continues that idea into the next generation, always keeping themselves
separate and 'above' compassion and other major parts of the basic human
condition. Hence little or no 'heart'.

There are exceptions. But they rarely rise to a position of power
and prominence, John Kennedy comes to mind. For the most part
these are people that prefer to be behind the scenes and pulling strings
from a distance. It used to be in the cigar-smoke filled room, the
power agreed upon by several individuals necessary for the deal to
occur, and beneficial to the finances of each participant. It has perhaps
always been thus. And the number sharing the wealth has grown, and
so has the number of the disenfranchised.

But recently, with political power that will stop at nothing to push
through the deals, pay any price to any individual, such power has
been concentrated as never before seen in history. Under the guise
of morality, and quickly catching fire with the fakirs of Television
Evangelists, an unholy alliance has formed. Using threats of
"Unamerican" and "Liberal", dissenting opinion has been chilled,
while private (unsaid) opposition has increased. Claiming the moral
high ground by fear of Terrorism, we are increasingly under the thumb
of despots who have swiftly moved to take over the major
institutions of civilized society: The Courts, the Prosecutors,
the Church, the Vote and by extension, political representation.
In each case, finding the price that each man has, and *paying* it.
Our government has become a 'for hire' operation. And, unfortunately,
there is a significant part of our population that is blind to the
mechanizations of real power that has changed America for the
worse. The sheep, trusting that once was - still exists. It does
not, and they don't even see the mounting problem.

Part of this operation involves controlling those that would
recognize and challenge such Power. First, control the elections.
But don't be too obvious about it. Elections are whimsical in
nature, with people seemingly voting for the lesser of two evils.
Such voting control must appear to be totally on the level, while
switching enough votes to the hand-picked winner to further the
agenda. Those still fighting for Constitutional principles must
be voted down, quieted, and made worthless. Max Clelland
and Cynthia McKinney come to mind. Clelland, a Viet-Nam
War hero and triple-amputee. was defeated by using pictures
of Osama bin Laden (fear) in television commercials. And voters
in Georgia apparently thought this man was cozy with
"Terrorists". They will stop at nothing in their attacks, not
the Constitution, and certainly the Truth is no barrier. Even John
Kerry was heard saying, "they know no shame."

So it seems that King's novel has become reality. The blind
will follow the Neo-Con plans - more security at the price of
Freedom; and those of us who see the writing on the wall, have
been largely sidelined by the theft of our political voice, and,
perhaps even more importantly, Media representation.

Then there are the direct acts on the very Constitution. It is
worthy to note that even John Ashcroft remembered enough
of the Constitution to turn down a request for spying on Americans.
But, even he was soon gone.

Gone also, is the America that didn't attack other nations
without serious provocation, the America that prided itself
in not stooping to torture, and the America that required a
good education to evolve better participants.

Another factor is endless money, used to further the plan.
When the money supply (the M3) became secret, that was
a clear signal that the reins on spending wisely had been
severed, and with them, accountability in almost every
area of government. The people lost control of the purse.
And we can't even see it with the 3-card monte of hiding
expenses and robbing the Social Security funds......

Eventually, we come to the major question that has faced
many societies before: What can we do about it ? Have the
doors been slammed on Freedom and self-rule ? Are we now
stuck with accepting concentration camps and rule by private
organizations like Halliburton and Blackwater ? By troops
that are not bound by the Constitution, who will likely do
anything to keep their well-paid jobs ? Or is even this, just
a paranoid fantasy ? Or one that will yet come true in a way that
we cannot imagine ?

Are people basically decent, or will they always take the
"payoff" ? Feeding one's family is considered the most important
of acts, but what if that's unavailable ? What if that's the carrot
AND the stick ? If you are not with us - you are against us.

In history, there are two persons that faced oppression and actually
had some success, although a long time coming. Jesus was a
problem for the powers that were - they feared his moral stance
in an environment loaded with oppression. From both Rome, and from
the local powers. Jesus provided an idea; that we are all children
of the Father, and so we truly were brothers and sisters. The idea
grew, for various reasons, and a spark was created that was often
snuffed and misused, yet was nonetheless a blueprint for common
decency.

The other historical figure had an amazing success in his own
time. Mahatma Ghandi. He believed strongly in the decency
of the ordinary man, that one's conscience would be in play. His
solution was not to fight the oppression directly, but to simply
refuse to cooperate with it.

The evil of the British occupation was brought to a halt by
non-cooperation. Fighting British soldiers, in this case,
was a form of cooperation. Engaging in precisely what the
British were doing, was playing their game. And it was complete
with Indian soldiers on the side of the British. Lives were lost,
and it took time, but eventually the British realized that the game
was getting old, and the world was watching with interest,so they
pulled in their horns and gave India independence, while keeping
some economic ties.

Ghandi won. Actually, conscience won.

I would suggest that non-cooperation would be something that
we as Americans seriously consider. There may come a time for
armed resistance, but that path would be expensive in lives,
although satisfying in many ways. But the problem would be
taking out those at the top and installing (reinstalling) a Democracy
from near the beginning. Non-cooperation should be seriously
considered as one way to gum up the works.

Other things we can do ? I would further suggest that everyone
Vote by using mail-in ballots. They are available in every State,
and have the advantage of remaining whole ballots, that can
be subpeoned later. While the central computers can be hacked,
the actual ballots must legally (still) remain, in case of questioned
voting and for re-counts. It looks very much like we will need this
way of doing it. And watch the trash cans, while we're at it.

Those are my thoughts on the current state of affairs. Others
are invited to add ideas and propose solutions. Keep in mind
that a violent overthrow of the government is against the law.
(They got that one in, early).

Regards,

-John A
