The latest flu plague is not swine flu, although it has swine flu elements in its structure. Pigs are not taking sick. Swine flu is a swine disease that sometimes infects humans.

::::::::

No pigs have contracted the so-called "swine flu," and in fact, I believe I heard officials say that "swine flu" was a misnomer, that it was not a swine flu, but an H1N1, whatever that is.

I listened Tuesday to "Taking Aim", a radio show on WBAI, which can be found in the archives of the station's website. Ralph Schoenman and Mya Shone are the hotsts. They underscored the relationship between Rumsfeld and the drug companies that would profit from a pandemic.

They also said that the 1918 flu was manufactured as a bio war weapon, and was first disseminated at U.S. Army bases. Putting that aside for the moment, they did cite recent news articles saying that somehow the 1918 virus was resurrected by extracting it from the bodies of whalers who had died from it. These were mainstream articles. Now if the 1918 virus was indeed taken from these whalers, then its existence in the current strain could only have come from a laboratory connected with the effort to recreate it. In my local paper today is a q and a from McClatchy Newspapers:

"Q. What makes thsi swine flu virus special?

"A: It's a novel combination of bird, pig and human viral genes never before found in the U.S. or elsewhere, so people have no immunity to it. IT'S A DESCENDANT OF THE H1N1 VIRUS THAT KILLED TENS OF MILLIONS OF PEOPLE WORLDWIDE IN THE PANDEMIC OF 1918-1919 [my emphasis], mixed in with recent strains of swine and bird flu viruses. The 1918 virus originated in birds and then jumped to humans. This year's virus apparently jumped from a pig to a 5-year-old boy in Veracruz, Mexico."

Now I doubt they know the exact origins of what happened, so the five year old kid's experience with a swine borders on fiction, if not historical recreation. However, the main point is that this 1918 flu was resurrected from dead bodies of people who had contracted it, using laboratory procedures.
