In the United States, businesses that broker human eggs and "surrogacy" are luring women in by advising them that they will be "angels" for "donating" their children. The children themselves may disagree. In another blog I wrote about Son of a Surrogate Mother who was irate that the internet forums promoting surrogacy claimed that the "traditional surrogate" mother would not be the real mother of the child she produced (from her own egg) for sale. I highly recommend reading what "Son of a Surrogate" wrote about the outcome for a baby separated from mother at birth and sold.
I'm glad I wrote about him, because yesterday I got an email from another child of a surrogate mother who was looking for others like herself.
Here are links and excerpts from a few posts from her blog:
Surrogate Mother 's Child
"I always fantasised that she would fly over from America and come and get me one day and say that she couldn't live without me anymore. I remember waiting for her on the front steps and looking at every blonde lady that would walk by to see if she looked like the lady in the picture. I used to think that she would come and see my recitals and plays and she would be sitting in the audience. Well it Never happened. She never came back and got me."
"I am just looking for someone like me. Is there anybody out there in the same situation? Anyone? Please, I want to hear from you. I feel so alone and so much like a freak. Half Adopted. Umbilicly challenged."
Surrogacy - Daughter of a Surrogate Mother
"I almost feel as if there is something wrong with my natural mum. Like she is a few bricks short of a load. And then I look at the other two that raised me. How do you ask a woman to give you her child? Are you fucking daft? How can you sleep at night? I wonder who is crazier."
