Dear Congressman:As an American citizen, I outright reject President Bush's latest 'troop surge' and demand Congress take action. The American people have spoken and we want our soldiers brought home, not more sent into what has become an 'endless meat grinder' for American troops.
Iraq is in a state of undeniable civil war after our president failed to plan for the aftermath of an ill-conceived and pointless invasion. No show of force, strength or valor can end a sectarian feud that has raged for centuries. Only when the people of Iraq openly desire freedom more than we want to impose it at the end of a gun barrel, the violence and therefore the senseless, inane killing of our soldiers will indefinitely continue.
I wholly and fully support cutting off funds to escalate the illegal Iraq conflict, invasion and occupation. Furthermore, I wholly and completely support and insist that Congress stand up to a rogue, authoritarian President -- who no longer acts on behalf of the will of the people or our Constitution -- and cut off all war funds other than those necessary to bring the troops home.
President Bush and this administration were wrong from the beginning and they are even more wrong now. America, if we are to remain an open and free society, with a voice in our government, we must have our voices heard. In our form of a republic government that voice is through our elected officials in Congress.
Congress must end this senseless, immoral bloodshed and violence. More violence is only an invitation for more violence, not less. The Iraq conflict has slid from wrong to insidious to shear madness.
Our founders loudly warned of the rise of a tyrant, who would fail to listen to the people and Congress. In fear of this, they ensured that Congress was a co-equal branch of government that has the power to end wars and remove despotic rulers at the executive branch. That time -- when a president stands in lone defiance of a voice of unanimity from the people -- is now upon us.
We can no longer be republican or democratic, red states or blues states, liberal or conservative. We must all unite as Americans! If we allow a singular, solitary voice of one man, George W. Bush, to stand for all of us, even when his voice speaks for not one of us, then we have indeed failed our nation, lost our liberties and have been reduced to totalitarian rule and despotism.
In conclusion, I support without reservation, all measures necessary to stop and end the conflict in Iraq and the impeachment of George W. Bush for the crimes of failure to uphold his oath of office and violating the Separation of Powers granted by our Constitution.
Act now or we will no longer be history's actors, but merely another chapter of history that failed to act.
