West Side Story is a very fine musical, a classic, with perhaps some of the finest music ever to come down the pike. The following is not great music, and probably not any more than mediocre poetry. It may even be scurrilous doggerel, but no matter. It is, all things considered, amusing, and I'd like to hear you all singing and enjoying it. Sing it loudly as often as the opportunity presents itself...and be sure to share it with your friends. Without any further ado:
Subpoena
(to the tune of "Maria" from the musical West Side Story, and with apologies to Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim)
Subpoena
They've issued another subpoena
And suddenly that word, it doesn't sound absurd
To me
Subpoena
It's time to take Bush to the clean-ah
He's committed every crime and should be doing time
You see
Subpoena
Patrick Leahy, his face is glowing
The evidence surely is growing
Subpoena
They'll reap what they're sowing
Subpoena
Subpoena
To summon a grinning hyena
The emails disappeared exactly as we feared
They would
Subpoena
We've got to get tough-ah and mean-ah
We can't keep backing down 'cause catering to this clown's
No good
Subpoena
Mr. Cheny has earned a flaying
Mr. Bush should no longer be staying
Subpoena
We'll never stop saying
Subpoena
