Dominique Strauss-Kahn is a Socialist. He was leading the polls in France for the next Presidential election.  If he won he would have ousted his arch rival, right wing Nicolas Sorkozy who has, incidentally been a good friend to the US and NATO military industrial complex. He has been arrested and charged with sexual crimes, specifically sexual assault on a female hotel worker, a charge very difficult to disprove because it relies on one person's word against another's. In contrast to with other sex scandals, particularly those involving powerful right wing politicians in the US Congress, it is remarkable that the US media has run wall-to-wall coverage of this event non-stop for over 24 hours. This topic is difficult to associate with other right wing media events because women's rights are dear to the hearts of liberals and given the centuries of 'blame the victim' mentality liberals are not going to quickly jump on the obvious and wagon that Strauss-Kahn is a victim of political persecution. However, this news uncannily recalls recent events with Assange and other similar cases against well known left wingers, such as Eliot Spitzer. If one compared the number of such events that occurred to right wing politicians against left wing politicians, taking into account the emphasis placed on the events by the media, it would be hard to conclude that these are random and that the media has been fair-minded in its treatment. How many right wing politicians' sex scandals were played on a 24 hour basis just prior to elections when they were clearly in the lead? Unfortunately all we are left with is in conclusion because of the famous quote, now indelibly burned into our consciousness: "There are lies, damn lies and statistics."  Even though statistics can be very informative, when properly analyzed and applied, the abuse of statistics by the media has rendered their use ineffective in such situations.  So all we can do is speculate and ask ourselves is this just another coincidence that happens to favor the right wing?
