Here’s an Idea
Let’s take the, roughly, billion dollars a day that we are spending on the Iraq police action and spend it on alternative fuel development with a small portion of it, maybe 1 million, going towards securing out borders.
Think about it.
Whatever you think the reasons are for our involvement in the Middle East, things would change pretty fast. The mere threat of losing all of that business would, more than likely, result in a reduction in the price by oil producing countries. The worldwide interest in being involved in the Middle East would be sharply reduced resulting in less conflict. The oil producing countries would be more inclined to be cooperative when it came to things like policing terrorism and human rights violations. The Middle East would be easier to get along with and our own oil companies, showing record profits, would be more likely to share the wealth resulting in gasoline and heating oil price reductions. Not to mention that our own involvement in the Middle East would be reduced making us less of a target for Muslim radicals.
The next thing is that, whether you agree or not that global warming is a problem or even exists, no one can argue about whether or not smog exists and that it is killing thousands of Americans every year. If we begin running our electric power plants on air, or water, or something that no one has thought of yet and driving electric cars, smog will be substantially reduced and global warming will become a mute issue, on or our side of the pond, anyway. The environment will be improved.
The last thing is that our economy needs a shot in the arm right now. With the federal government pouring a billion dollars a day into R&D and development, things would start to look a lot better with energy development taking over as the next technological wave that drives the economy. There would be IPOs that would keep the Federal Reserve Bank, the venture capitalists, and rich investors happy. Modern manufacturing would be developed here and the deficit would start to be reduced. More people will be back to work and actually be happy that those antiquated manufacturing facilities moved off shore.
Compressed air powered cars and windmill technology have been developed. Advancements in electric cars have been made although the pricing is beyond the reach of most people. The ability to burn salt water at 3,000 degrees by submitting it to electronic energy has been discovered. The thing that these things need to become a reality for everyone is money.
So, let’s just agree that the Middle East is what it is, for the time being, and move on. America has been on the forefront of technology for hundreds of years now. Let’s get back on it. Let's stop putting out fires and remove the fuel that ignites them.
Think about it. There’s something for everyone in this.
