Not long ago Democrats were screaming to high heaven because the prez manufactured a 'weapons of mass destruction' illusion to justify invading Iraq.

::::::::

Suddenly faced with the possibility of having to put up or shut up, a new persepective has arisen. Sly winks and nods, uncomfortable silences have emerged. A sudden new respect for the war.

Democrats are discovering it isn't the war in Iraq that bothers them, whatever the manufactured excuses for being there.

Nooooooo. What bothers Democrats now is the way that war has been conducted by this prez. The war's okay. It's just the fact the HumVees ain't armored on their bellies. Troops haven't gotten sufficient body armor.

Amazing parallels to Vietnam.

Lyndon Johnson manufactured his own 'weapons of mass destruction' illusion with the Gulf of Tonkin incident. He used this deception to justify changing that war from a small one into the longest and most destructive war in US history.

But a year after the phony Gulf of Tonkin Incident had things going as he wished, Johnson admitted the thing probably never happened.

Which didn't change a damned thing. The war raged on for years despite the phony foundations. Nixon was elected to get us the hell out, and still it lasted lasted lasted.

As with Democrats today, Nixon wasn't against the war in Vietnam. He just didn't like the way it was being fought.

Democrats have never minded wars, per se. They just don't like Republican wars.
