Sonnet For The New American Century(With an oblique nod to John Milton)
When we considered how Bush had bent
The truth, misled, dissembled and lied;
And brave soldiers and countless guiltless died,
And in his vainglorious arrogance he sent
Us a message that he was intent
On fashioning empire feared worldwide;
Dismayed, we heard his message and tried
In vain to stay his hand and prevent
The senseless butchery, but he wouldn 't heed
Our admonition of catastrophe and pressed
Forward. The scorn of good men is the fate
That befell him. Now there 's evident need
To impeach him and put him under arrest;
We need the nerve; we hope it 's not too late
