For those who are so against Social Security and Medicaid, I have these figures to share with you. Both my wife and I started paying into Social Security back in the 1950's. I paid into it the whole time I was in the Navy as well as paying into it from the time I retired until my heart attack when I was 62. Yes I have my Navy retirement but many people have only their Social Security which in many cases is not enough to feed and house the people.
A case in point is my wife's. She worked from at least 1956 until she turned 62 and paid into SS and Medicare the whole time. So what does she get in return? Before deductions she gets $664.40 then they take out $96.40 a month for Medicare Insurance. She doesn't have to pay for part D because I have Tri-Care for life, because the military for the full time I was in said as a reenlistment that you would have free medical coverage for life.
It doesn't work that way. I still have to pay a portion of the cost of medicine, doctors and hospitals until we have paid out $3000 total each year. With my heart troubles that doesn't take too long. So the Medicare is costing us money out of pocket every month so why is it and social security in trouble? Social Security is solvent under current payments until 2040 according to everything I have seen. Medicare is in trouble because medical costs are going up at greater then the cost of living. This is driven by drug cost increases of over 1000% in the last year alone.
So why did Congress not allow the Medicare people to negotiate drug costs like the military and independent insurers do? Ask Congress who gets a big chunk of their reelection money from the same drug companies. After all we do have the best politicians money can buy. If you agree tell the people in the District of Criminals so. Better yet tell them either fix the system or find a new job.
