We all know we're being watched. In fact, a fairly old intersection in Vallejo, CA, right next to the JFK Public Library, has a little device that looks a lot like a camera, on the post-arm sticking out and holding up the traffic light. And after first seeing it, I've become unable to cross that intersection without looking up (dangerously) and checking it.

So I always cross that intersection slowly, and when I was searching Flickr Commons for pictures of poverty in the USA (yes, poverty), I discovered this little surveillance item, and decided - all things considered, including the age of the pictures and the obviously foreign origins of so many of the subjects - that this little surveillance picture would strike more chords here at OEN.

It is a very nice picture, and not just compostionally.

I have a law degree (Stanford, 66') but have never practiced. Instead, from 1967 through 1977, I tried to contribute to the revolution in America. As unsuccessful as everyone else over that decade, in 1978 I went to work for the U.S. Forest (more...)
