After viewing the debate, this liberal can't stomach voting for any of them. Obama doesn't have the nerve to stand up for himself, and the Republican line up is the worst ever.

After having watched the Republican Party debate last night and after having viewed Ron Paul's video with favorable references to Ronald Reagan, this hard core liberal just can't stomach voting for any Republican.   I will have to look elsewhere.   I might even vote for an openly socialist candidate or the Green Party candidate.

Last night I watched Huntsman ridicule the others for being anti-science, and I myself wondered why they would have opinions that are somewhat medieval. Considering that we live in a world where mass species are dying off and the shifts in climate are wreaking havoc on our environment, I find it unbelievable that these folks even exist, much less are running for office.

All of them want to get rid of Social Security/ Medicaid, and Welfare. Ron Paul when asked about LBJ's sympathy for starving kids in Texas, basically said that just because he didn't like government doesn't mean he's not sympathetic. They want churches to pay for starving kids. I really don't want the church involved in any more activities.   They will be forcing the poor to convert in order to get food which happens in some third world countries.

The audience cheered when Rick Perry announced that he killed more people with the death penalty than anyone else. I found that disturbing.

While I understand that the immigration issue is a sensitive one considering the numbers of unemployed Americans, I am not thrilled about a barbed wire fence on the border.   If they required employers to check social security numbers, we wouldn't need the fence. If big slaughterhouses were shut down when they shipped illegal workers over here to work for pennies chopping up meat, we wouldn't have an illegal problem. If corporations were required to pay for visas for individuals caught working under them illegally, the problem would disappear.   If big ranches used to farm cheap lettuce for McDonald's were broken up into small family farms where slave labor was not required to tend it, the immigration problem would go away. Only Romney mentioned a fine for employers.   All of the rest except Paul wanted barbed wire fences and an army on the border.

Herman Cain insisted that the US could use a system like Chile's instead of social security. It's the same system set up by fascist dictator Pinochet.   It's basically a 401K and doesn't work for people who aren't paid much.

Huntsman and Paul are the only ones isolationist. Bachman wants to invade and bomb Iran for Israel and stated so openly.

They don't want to tax corporations and generally seem anti-education.   Gingrich wants charter schools for everyone.

I have never seen a more extreme group of individuals running for president of the United States.   I think we will have to push an independent to run against Obama even though our corporately owned media doesn't like independents.

I enjoy writing about political/ economic events, and I am especially concerned about the US as a warlike nation. I would like to see this nation turn itself around from a conquering nation in both commerce and war to a nation of peace. I hope that (more...)
