As I read the article on MSNBC.com this morn, I was taken back by the grads' commencement. In point, their guest speaker, Newt Gingrich. These grads spent their commencement tearing up not for themselves and their assumed achievements, but instead for their leader post mortem, Jerry Falwell. Wow. That's weird. A possible candidate for President of our U.S., spoke these words,
“Anybody on the left who hopes that when people like Reverend Falwell disappear that the opportunity to convert all of America has gone with them fundamentally misunderstands why institutions like this were created,” Gingrich said.
Oh, yeah. I think we do, Newt.
Now, that is excercising free speech if I ever saw it. Propaganda? No. Rhetoric? Hmm. Why would less than powerful people like Michael Moore, or Cindy Crawford or countless others be slammed, and shut-up in lieu of threats of jail-time for speaking their minds p.o.v.?
Another passing thought; isn't it interesting that this mindset and declaration, by Newt G., comes out of a town called, Lynchburg?? No offense to the many good citizens who live there, it's just a name, I know. I just couldn't help but make the connection. Hey, I've never lived in the South, I'm from the West.
