The U.S. continues British ideals, Lords providing for serfs. Employers are the lords, employees are the serfs. Consider this thought from the perspective of providing healthcare and benefits. Some folks who we could call owners/employers still seek to be the wealthiest lord in the land. Ego is still at root of the problem.
Small town economies reflect this the most.
